A History of Growth & Impact Through the Decades
ADL has been a pioneer in establishing programs designed to give individuals and communities everywhere the tools they need to make a difference and respond to incidents of bias, antisemitism, discrimination and hate.
International Center for Holocaust Studies
ADL establishes the International Center for Holocaust Studies – one of the nation's first formal Holocaust Education programs – to help students and educators understand the Holocaust and apply its lessons to contemporary issues of prejudice and hate.
Words to Action®
Words to Action launches in response to ADL’s comprehensive survey of Jewish middle & high schoolers in New England – indicating that they regularly experienced antisemitism in their schools, neighborhoods and communities.
A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE Campaign
ADL and WCVB-TV in Boston initiate the A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE campaign, a year-long series of educational and media-driven programs to combat prejudice and create effective tools to address these issues in the classroom and community.
A World of Difference® Institute
To meet the increasing demand for its services, ADL creates and launches the A World of Difference® Institute— a platform for ADL's anti-bias training programs nationwide.
Peer Training Program
Following the 1991 unrest in Crown Heights, NY, ADL works with Clara Barton High School students concerned about their community and experiences with bias and discrimination to combat social injustice by launching ADL’s Peer Training Program.
Names Can Really Hurt Us
ADL develops the Names Can Really Hurt Us Assembly Program in response to the growing demand from regional educators to help counter incidents of bullying – particularly identity-based bullying – at school.
Peer Leadership Program
ADL’s Peer Leadership Program is created in collaboration with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America – providing structure for developing the knowledge and skills young people need to be leaders in creating respectful, inclusive schools and communities.
No Place for Hate®
In the aftermath of the Columbine High School shootings, the white supremacist attack on the Los Angeles Jewish Community Center, and the murders of Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr., ADL launches the No Place for Hate® initiative – a holistic, school-wide approach to improving school climate.

Empowering Young People in the Aftermath of Hate
In response to the terrorist attacks on Sept 11, 2001, ADL’s A World of Difference® Institute produces "Empowering Young People in the Aftermath of Hate," a guide distributed by The New York Times.
Echoes & Reflections
ADL joins with the USC Shoah Foundation and Yad Vashem to launch Echoes & Reflections, a comprehensive multimedia program for teaching about the Holocaust in U.S. schools.
Making Diversity Count
Making Diversity Count marks ADL's foray into online education, with an anti-bias course advancing best practices for building inclusive classroom environments.

In response to COVID-19, ADL launches a series of online offerings.
